One of the most important responsibilities of dog owners is to vaccinate their pets. Vaccinations in dogs boost their immunity and prevent them from contracting and spreading serious and sometimes fatal infections. Moreover, the law mandates that all dogs receive the rabies vaccine.
We make sure that our puppies get the appropriate vaccinations for their age before they leave us. They receive at least two combination vaccines (at 6 and 9 weeks old) that protect them from Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Canine Parainfluenza, and Canine Parvovirus. You will have to continue the vaccination schedule when you take your new puppy home.
We administer the vaccinations ourselves. This is effective and actually safer than exposing them to a vet's office at this young age. I was instructed on the appropriate way to give vaccines more than 15 years ago by our licensed veterinarian and we have done them with all of our adults and puppies since. Do NOT let anyone tell you they are not as effective or safe. The only core vaccine you cannot perform at home is the rabies vaccine at 12+ weeks which must be administered by a licensed vet. Upon the transfer of your puppy from us to you, you will be provided with the vial labels of the exact vaccine your puppy has received. This will show your veterinarian exactly what the puppy has received. You only need to continue with the provided schedule when due. Do NOT "redo" the vaccines we have given as this will over-vaccinate your puppy.
Different countries, states, and veterinarians may have different vaccination schedules and recommendations for pets. The schedule we suggest is as follows. You should always consult a licensed veterinarian before giving any medicine to your dog.
6 Weeks (1st) Puppy 5-way & 9 Weeks (2nd) Puppy 5-way For protection against Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Canine Parainfluenza, and Canine Parvovirus. Also cross-protects against respiratory infection caused by infectious canine hepatitis (CAV-1).
12 Weeks (3rd) Puppy 10-way & 16 Weeks (4th) Puppy 10-way A preventative for the common diseases Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Canine Parainfluenza, and Canine Parvovirus along with 4 strains of Leptospirosis. The diluent contains killed antigens for Leptospira Canicola-Grippotyphosa-Icterohaemorrhagiae-Pomona bacterial extract. Also cross-protects against respiratory infection caused by infectious canine hepatitis (CAV-1).
12-16 weeks of age - Rabies Vaccination given by your licensed veterinarian.
This advice is given solely as a means of educating individuals; all vaccinations, heartworm prevention, and general medicine should be discussed with a licensed Veterinarian before administering.
All puppies leave us current on vaccinations for their age.
